Niagara, we meet again! This time we quietly slipped away from Toronto in order to celebrate our one month post-engagement, a complete surprise from Joseph! Because we’ve previously dined at the Prince of Wales for their wonderful High Tea, we decided to celebrate over dinner at their in-house restaurant Escabèche.
Love those butter balls and the way they’re rolled out so perfectly
A tangy sorbet amuse-bouche that stimulated our appetites
Champagne for toasting 😀
Dungeness Crab Chowder (smoked corn, spring onion, fennel pollen): flavourful and hearty with crab meat, although saltier than we would have liked
Roast St. David’s Red Pepper Bisque (confit cherry tomato, yogurt cheese): the roasted red peppers were a nice addition, but unfortunately the tomatoes overpowered the other flavours of the soup
Serrano Chili Marinated Tiger Prawns (house cut pasta, quiet acres organic summer squash, black truffle ricotta cream): the prawns were perfectly cooked and tender, and LARGE as Tiger prawns should be. As a huge fan of seafood, we thought the flavours paired well with the pasta.
Grilled 6 oz beef tenderloin (confit potatoes, roast heirloom carrots, fleur de marque butter): Joseph loves steak, and this piece of meat was aged well with very few “debris;” the blue cheese addition was very much appreciated
A steak lover’s approval 😉
Instead of dessert, we chose to finish our meals off with tea. The silver teapots were charming, but we warn you now that it gets incredibly hot! Aside from the handle, please do not touch anywhere else!
Overall we had a great celebration at the Prince of Wales. Escabèche is spacious and bright, with attentive service. We felt very comfortable conversing over dinner… that I think we may be due for another visit sooner than we think!
