This one’s for all the ramen lovers!
We had DELICIOUS noodles at Sansotei over the weekend and thought the extra additions were well worth it. We both ordered Tonkotsu (pork bone broth) ramen and asked for extra noodles at $1 more per bowl. It is obviously much more valuable and worthwhile to pay the extra $1 than it is to order two bowls of ramen, because trust me- it is so delicious that you can’t have just one!
Although we’ve been to other popular Toronto ramen resturants such as Kinton, Santouka, and Raijin Ramen, Sansotei remains our favourite because we really enjoy the taste and texture of their noodles the most. We also appreciate that, unlike the other ramen resturants, you get a choice between Sansotei original, thin, or thick noodles. In this instance we both ordered the thin noodles.
Joseph ordered extra chashu (pork belly) with his, at an additional $2. The chashu is very tasty, and its fat imparts just the right amount of flavour without being greasy. Ramen broth by nature is salty, but we feel that the broth at Sansotei has a tolerable sodium content (ie. it doesn’t leave you feeling incredibly parched), and the tonkotsu soup base has a great simmered pork flavour.
We highly recommend this restaurant! This place is popular and there always seems to be a lineup outside; the line begins in front of the door, so be sure to dress warmly in the winter time because you will be waiting outside. A waitress will come out periodically to give those in line a piece of paper with their number on the wait list. Although the seating is limited, the turnover rate is high (which is the beauty of quick meals like ramen), and so we still say that it’s all worth it in the end. Great news Toronto – they’ll be opening up another restaurant at Yonge and Bloor! 😀
