Splendido was such a wonderful experience for us: fine dining catered by exceptional service, held in an intimate setting fit for a… proposal? YES, we’re engaged and it happened at this restaurant! We have many people to thank for making our night so memorable, in particular to Jeff and his team at Splendido; you certainly worked your magic. 😀
Wedding proposal aside, the food truly was excellent both in taste and in presentation. We started with an amuse bouche, which was a light and creamy soup paired with cheese pastries. For drinks we ordered a lemonade along with a Summer Solstice cocktail, and we found it refreshing with a hint of cucumber.
Complimentary champagne for celebration: not dry, a bit sweet and perfect for the first day of summer
The sweet potato bread was uniquely flavoured, and as soft as it was fresh. We’ve never had potato in our bread before so this was quite the treat 😀
George’s Bank Scallop Ceviche (with cream foam shaped like a carrot). The scallops were sliced paper thin and lightly dressed.
These PEI Oysters were delicious! When something is this fresh, you don’t want to complicate the flavours and that’s exactly what we had – a medley of simple ingredients that brought out the sweetness in each oyster (highly recommended). Eaten as is.
Tempura Soft Shell Crab: one of our favourite dishes of the night. Lightly battered and crispy all around, each guest received individualized portions on a wooden platter.
Ribeye with Roasted Bone Marrow. The ribeye was very well prepared. We ordered the steak rare, yet the meat was not overly bloody. The bone morrow was very rich, gelatinous, and dare we say “fatty” – definitely an acquired taste.
Chicken thigh salad
Succulent Roasted Chicken and Gnocchi
Crispy frites: The Splendido Yukon Gold Potato Fries were a welcomed addition to our meal.
These brussel sprouts were no ordinary greens. The surprise ingredient was a real kicker – wasabi glaze! These were very, very good and complimented the steak and softshell crab very well. Easily one of the best side dishes in Toronto thus far.
Chocolate Basil Mousse: this was beautifully plated and tasted as good as it looked! The light mousse paired well with the berries.
Mille-Feuille: deconstructed with layers of puff pastry, strawberries and cream
Complimentary chocolates and housemade cocoa marshmallows for our special night. The marshmallows were light and fluffy, and the chocolates were shaped like diamonds with a delectable filling. Splendido is definitely a must-try. Great food, modern space, intimate atmosphere, and detail-oriented service. We look forward to dining here on our future anniversaries! 😉
