Waiting for Baby

At any given moment, my hospital bags are packed and ready to go. We’re playing the waiting game now and it’s mostly me sitting at home, looking over details. Baby, you can take as long as you need!

Dreams of Velvet - Hospital Bag

Looking back, I’ve had my fair share of visitors. Although I haven’t had any strong cravings (except for watermelon and Vietnamese pho), my friends have brought over desserts to keep my former sweet tooth satisfied. Why former? Because pregnancy does a number on your taste buds and everything sweet tastes great WHILE you’re eating it, but then lingers with a bitter/sour aftertaste in this mouth (yuck). Totally throws me off, so yes I’ve been a good girl and my blood sugars are well within a healthy range. No gestational diabetes over here!

Dreams of Velvet - AG Macarons 2

First things first, AG Macarons. I’ve been eyeing these on Instagram for quite some time now. Thank you Jon for the surprise! And yes, they taste as good as they look. In the box from top to bottom, left to right: (purple) birthday cake, (yellow) pear champagne, (blue) toasted coconut, (orange) apricot walnut, (grey) earl grey, (white) strawberry marshmallow. Earl grey was my fav!

Dreams of Velvet - Fairmont Oolong

To accompany those macarons was this extraordinary vanilla-scented oolong from The Fairmont Chateau at Lake Louise (Alberta). Again, thanks to Jon, I’ve never had anything like it! Gotta love my tea time.

Dreams of Velvet - Uncle Tetsu

Next up, the infamous Uncle Tetsu Japanese cheesecake! The lineups are outrageous and our friend Stacy did so just for us! Seriously, the average wait time is like 2 hours long, and you’re only allowed one cake per person so this was a dream come true. Pillowy soft, and not too sweet (as expected with all Asian desserts), it really is worth the wait. Baby approved. 😀

Dreams of Velvet - The Maid's Cottage Butter Tarts

Last but not least, butter tarts from my friend Samantha. Lemme tell you – I LOVE BUTTER TARTS, and these from The Maids’ Cottage are like no other! Just look at that crust. You can’t see it too clearly here, but it’s built up very high, like a deep dish crust on a pizza except it’s a butter tart. And you know what that means – deep dish buttery filling! It was so freaking good, and clearly deserves its title for famous butter tarts. Ugh, I want some now!

Cheers,

Melissa
